Lunar Lecture: Astronaut Training in Flagstaff, Past and Present

Thanks to the persistence and foresight of the late Gene Shoemaker, all Apollo astronauts began to train in geology with scientists from the Flagstaff US Geological Survey 50 years ago. This legacy has since continued with members of the astronaut training classes frequenting Flagstaff during their two-year training periods to study with scientists from the Flagstaff USGS. Geologist Jim Skinner will share with us how this training has evolved through the years and give us insights into the training going on right now with the latest astronaut training class.
